Reconnect with mother nature!
The natural landscapes in Spain are absolutely breathtaking. You can find everything from coastline, to lush valleys, river-filled gorges, and cloud-piercing mountains. Perhaps the most famous mountain range, aptly named the Peaks of Europe (Picos de Europa), which spread across the provinces of Asturias, Cantabria and León. The peaks are also home to two of the most emblematic animals to live in Spain: the brown bear and the Iberian wolf... but there is much more than that.
Cangas de Onís was the first capital of the Kingdom of Asturias, presently it is an enchanting town with historic buildings, churches a wide variety of shops, bars, restaurants, and holds a busy Sunday market.
Covadonga, 12 km south-east of Cangas de Onís, is the historic site of the battle that shaped Spain's destiny, and a major pilgrimage destination. It is also a gateway to the national park.
Potes on the eastern (Cantabrian) side of the Picos de Europa, is a gateway to the national park, and a pretty destination in its own right. Potes has a variety of shops, hotels, bars, and restaurants. Monday is market day. Just outside town is the historic Monastery of Santo Toríbio de Liébana, with good views of the eastern massif.
