SPAIN | ASTÚRIAS & CANTABRIA
Reconnect with mother nature!

The natural landscapes in Spain are absolutely breathtaking. You can find everything from coastline, to lush valleys, river-filled gorges, and cloud-piercing mountains. Perhaps the most famous mountain range, aptly named the Peaks of Europe (Picos de Europa), which spread across the provinces of Asturias, Cantabria and León. The peaks are also home to two of the most emblematic animals to live in Spain: the brown bear and the Iberian wolf... but there is much more than that.

Cangas de Onís was the first capital of the Kingdom of Asturias, presently it is an enchanting town with historic buildings, churches a wide variety of shops, bars, restaurants, and holds a busy Sunday market.

Covadonga, 12 km south-east of Cangas de Onís,  is the historic site of the battle that shaped Spain's destiny, and a major pilgrimage destination. It is also a gateway to the national park.

Potes on the eastern (Cantabrian) side of the Picos de Europa, is a gateway to the national park, and a pretty destination in its own right. Potes has a variety of shops, hotels, bars, and restaurants. Monday is market day. Just outside town is the historic Monastery of Santo Toríbio de Liébana, with good views of the eastern massif.

European Peaks Highlights:
  • The Roman bridge that crosses the river Sella on the edge of town Cangas de Onís.
  • The Monastery of San Pedro de Villanueva (today is a luxury Parador Hotel),
  • The religious sanctuary of Covadonga together with the basilica makes this historic and religious site a place of peace, beauty and spirituality;
  • Experience, at your own rhythm, the Way to Santiago Compostela. One of the very first pilgrimage ever made to Santiago, starts at the Catedral of San Salvador in Oviedo;
  • The beautiful Mountain Lakes Ercina and Enol in Covadonga, declared a National park, are a great place to hike, the views of the impressive peaks, verdant slopes and deep-blue lakes are astounding.
